Nokia E70

The Nokia E70 is a refined version of the Nokia 6800 of the yesteryears

What does an enterprise user look for in a cell phone? I posed this question to a few users and this is the list they came up with-Office apps, all possible connectivity options, e-mailing capability, and a QWERTY keypad for extensive tuping (e-mails or documents). If one examines these attributes, all but q QWERTY keypad are related to the software and are present in most smartphones these days. The differentiating factor is the presence of a QWERTY keypad. It is quite challenging for a manufacturer to provide one without compromising with the overall style and design of the phone. But Nokia unintentionally broke the code with its ‘SMS friendly’ device-the 6800-that had a folding flap, which opened to reveal a whole QWERTY keypad. The 6800 was launched almost three years ago and it was natural for the company to revive the design in the E70 and re-badge it as an enterprise solution.

Looks familiar:

Having said that, some customers might be put off by the similar looks (comparethe looks of the 6800 with the E70 in the pictures) of the two handsets. After all, would you like to buy a handset that is a look-alike of one that was launched over three years ago? You probably would, only if you care to see what the E70 has beyond its stale appearance. When compared with the others, the E70 has to be the most pocketable handset with a QWERTY keypad. The unique folding keypad mechanism saves it a great deal of width, which is often not the case with handsets that sport a full-fledged keypad. What the E70 wins with the dimensions. It loses out on the screen size. If it is the most pocket-friendly enterprise device. It also has to be one with the smallest screen size. This means that either you use a small font size while viewing document files and web pages, or end up scrolling and panning a great deal. Either of the scenarios do not augur well for the E70.

Although it still remains to be an affair that revolves round the edges, but the additions are worth checking out.

The industry watchers say on this is, to remain poised for the moment as the IT giant has not yet planned to release the same and may have more to add into the existing stock.

Although it is hype with Snapdragon which is capable of running 1GHz speed, Acer down-clock the processor to 768MHz to utilized the capability of 1,350mAh battery and mainly not draining it with a couple hour of usage.
